Pueblo Electrician License CO: Classes and Exam Site
Pueblo's building department became a different organization this year, which means a lot of the advice online points at a department that no longer exists. Here is who handles it now, where the training is, and which of it we could not confirm.

The building department changed hands
The old site says it plainly: as of January 01, 2026 Pueblo Regional Building Department has transitioned to Southern Colorado Building Department.
Southern Colorado Building Department is at 830 N Main St, Pueblo, CO 81003, on 719-543-0002, with a licensing email of [email protected] and a front counter open 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Its site carries one notice worth acting on: license renewal for 2026 has ended, and if you did not renew your license you will have to submit a new application.
The detailed electrical registration requirements, fees and insurance minimums were not visible on the page as we fetched it on 7 September 2026, so those are unconfirmed here. Email the licensing address rather than working from an old PRBD page.
What the old department's page described
For context, because the transition is recent and the older description may still shape the new process.
The former Pueblo Regional Building Department described electrical as a registration rather than a license, handled through a registration packet covering electrical, plumbing, pump, fire protection, gas tank installation and stationary engineer work, sent to a licensing email address.
It listed no examination for electrical, unlike General Contractor A, B and C, which required ICC tests.
We are recording that as the old arrangement, not as the current one. Confirm with Southern Colorado Building Department.
Pueblo County, separately
Pueblo County Building Division is at 201 W. 8th St. #120, Pueblo, CO 81003, on 719-583-6100.
Its published requirement: electrical and plumbing professionals must submit the following with their registration packet, found on the county website, being a copy of their State Master License and a copy of their State Registration.
The county's Contractor Licensing Requirements Handout is marked coming soon and is not available, so the fee and the renewal term are unconfirmed there too.
Both of those are asking for the same two state credentials: the master electrician license and the electrical contractor registration. The contractor page covers how those work.
Pueblo Electrical JATC

The home page does not publish program names, length, hours or entry requirements, and we did not fetch its current how to apply section.
The most detailed published document we found is an announcement of apprenticeship opportunities marked Revised 12-22-2020, covering the Inside Construction Electrician Apprenticeship Program. Because of its date, everything from it should be reconfirmed with the training director before you act on it.
What that 2020 document says, with its date attached

Entry: must be at least 18 years of age; a high school diploma or GED plus an algebra requirement, or an Associates Degree or higher with proof of math, or completion of the NJATC math course; a qualifying score of 4 or higher on the electrical trade's aptitude test, developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research; and a valid Colorado Driver's License at the time of indenture.
Documents: a high school diploma or GED and records, a birth certificate or proof of age, official transcripts, a DD-214 if applicable, and a passing drug screen. The application period stated in that document ran January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021, which has long since closed.
Program: four years, on the job training listed as 0 to 8,000 hours across six advancement periods, classroom two nights weekly plus some weekends for four years, and a minimum 80 percent GPA.
Jurisdiction, quoted: Alamosa, Archuleta, Baca, Bent, Chaffee, Conejos, Costilla, Crowley, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, Kiowa, Las Animas, Mineral, Otero, Prowers, Pueblo, Rio Grande and Saguache. That is a very large area for one training center, which is worth knowing if you live in southern Colorado and assumed the nearest program was in Colorado Springs.
IntelliTec College, Pueblo
IntelliTec College runs a program named Electrical Technician at 3673 Parker Blvd., Pueblo, CO 81008, published length 10.5 months.
The college states that the program prepares students for NCCER certifications including OSHA-10, CORE and Electrical Levels 1 to 4, that it puts you on track to becoming an electrical apprentice, and that it prepares graduates to sit for the Residential Wireman exam after completing the 4,000 hours of required work experience. No prior electrical experience is required.
Note the shape of that last sentence, because it is accurate and it is easy to misread. The course does not replace the 4,000 hours. The hours still have to be worked. The residential wireman page has the requirement.
This is a private college program rather than a registered apprenticeship, and the page does not claim Board approval. We are not a school and we do not certify anyone's course.
Pueblo Community College, unconfirmed
The college publishes an apprenticeship programs page and an online non-credit Residential Electrician career training course. We did not fetch either page.
So no PCC credit electrical program is confirmed here, and no claim about whether any PCC course counts toward the Board's 288 hour requirement should be read into this page.
If you are considering it, ask the college in writing whether the hours count, and check the answer against the Board's own requirement.
The test center
PSI's bulletin lists Pueblo at 803 West 4th Street, #803S, Pueblo, CO 81003.
That is one of ten Colorado sites and the only one in southern Colorado apart from Durango, so it serves the whole of the JATC's nineteen county jurisdiction.
The paper is 90 scored items in 240 minutes with 63 correct to pass, at $78 with a $73 retest. PSI supplies the 2026 National Electrical Code and a formula page, and you may not write on, highlight, underline or index them.
