Aurora Electrician License CO: Training and Testing
Aurora has no electrical apprenticeship sponsor, no PSI test center and, on its own document, no separate contractor license for electricians. That combination is unusual and it is worth knowing before you plan around it.

What the city says, in its own words
From the City of Aurora contractor license fees and requirements sheet, marked Revised 02/2026:
ELECTRICIANS AND PLUMBERS: Requires a state master's and contractor's license issued by the State of Colorado. The City of Aurora does not issue a separate contractor's license.
So on the city's own current document, there is no Aurora electrical license or registration to obtain. What you need is the state master electrician license and the state electrical contractor registration.
That is a shorter answer than most Colorado cities give, and it is the city's own answer rather than ours.
A conflict worth printing
Thornton's contractor license packet, dated January 25, 2024, names Denver, Arvada, Aurora and Fort Collins as jurisdictions with electrical contractor licenses that may be reciprocated case by case.
That sits against Aurora's own sheet, revised 02/2026, saying the City of Aurora does not issue a separate contractor's license for electricians.
Both are city documents and we are not resolving it. The Aurora sheet is the more recent of the two and it is the city speaking about itself, which is the reading we would weight, but if a jurisdiction asks you for an Aurora license, take the Aurora sheet with you.
The license that actually applies
C.R.S. 12-115-109(1) bars work at the trade of journeyman electrician, master electrician or residential wireman without a state license or a temporary permit. C.R.S. 12-115-110(5) bars a business from contracting without registering with the Board.
So for an Aurora electrician the ladder is the state ladder: apprentice registration filed by your employer within 30 days, then a license at residential wireman, journeyman or master level, then a contractor registration if you want to sign for work.
The license path page runs through it, and the hours page has the numbers.
No apprenticeship sponsor with an Aurora address
We found none. Aurora candidates are served by the Denver metro sponsors, and the two nearest are worth knowing by address.
The Denver Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee at 5610 Logan St, Denver, CO 80216 is the nearest joint IBEW and NECA center. Its applications close on September 30, 2026 and reopen on February 1, 2027, with a $35.00 non-refundable fee.
IEC Rocky Mountain lists campuses at Northglenn, Fort Collins, South Denver at the DCSD Legacy Campus, 10035 S. Peoria Street, Parker, CO 80134, and Cheyenne in Wyoming, plus a live online option. There is no Aurora campus, and the South Denver campus on Peoria Street is the closest to Aurora addresses.
Pickens Technical College has no electrical program
This one catches people, because Pickens is the trades school in Aurora and it is easy to assume electrical is on the list.
Pickens Technical College, 500 Airport Blvd, Aurora, CO 80011, (303) 344-4910, lists ten skilled trade programs: Advanced Manufacturing, Master Automotive Service Technician, Advanced Construction Methods, Diesel Technology, Facilities Maintenance Technician, Heating and Air Conditioning Service Technology, Non-Structural Repair Technician, Refinishing Technician, Motorcycle Service Technology Advanced Technician, and Welding.
There is no electrical program on that list. Facilities Maintenance Technician and Advanced Construction Methods are the nearest neighbours, and neither is an electrical apprenticeship.
Community College of Aurora, and what we could not confirm
The college offers online, non-credit career training courses branded Residential Electrician and Electrical Technician through its career training portal.
The course page returned a redirect loop when we fetched it on 7 September 2026, so the length, the cost and any licensing disclaimer are unconfirmed here.
Because of that, do not treat those courses as an apprenticeship, as a credit program, or as satisfying the Board's 288 hour requirement until somebody reads that page. If you are considering one, ask the college in writing whether it counts toward the 288 hours, and get the answer before you pay.
Where Aurora candidates test
There is no PSI site in Aurora on the bulletin's list of ten.
The nearest are Denver (Centennial) at 12150 E. Briarwood Ave, Suite 270, Centennial, CO 80112; Englewood at the Test Pro Center, 7395 S Peoria Street, Suite 105, TacAir Hangar 8, Centennial Airport, Englewood, CO 80112; and Denver (Wheat Ridge) at 4891 Independence St #220, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
Two of those are inside airport facilities, which is worth checking on a map the night before rather than on the morning. The exam is 90 scored items in 240 minutes at $78, and PSI supplies the book. The test day page has the identification rules.
What we do not publish
No Aurora pay figure. Our Colorado source file carries no wage research, so any number here would be a remembered one, and we would rather leave the gap visible.
The state licensing data is what we can give you: 22,022 active licensed individuals across the three grades in September 2026, with 15,520 registered apprentices behind them.
